What is Social Entrepreneurship?

Social Entrepreneurship, and the change that it yields, is one of the fastest growing areas within the field of entrepreneurship.  Most people, no matter their age or stage in life, desire to feel a sense of purpose with what they are doing, and to positively contribute to making our world better.

There are various elements that make up social change:  social innovation (an idea), social entrepreneurship (a mindset), and social enterprise (a business).  At its most basic level, Social Entrepreneurship is about doing business (for-profit or non-profit) for a social cause.

Social Entrepreneurs combine commerce and social issues in a way that improves the lives of people connected to the cause.  They don’t measure their success in terms of profit alone . . . success to Social Entrepreneurs means that they have improved the world, however that is defined.

What is the SEED Event on Saturday, October 20, 2018?

The SEED event is for those interested in learning more about Social Entrepreneurship, as well as those practicing Social Entrepreneurship that may be looking to share best practices, learn from others, exchange knowledge, and collaborate to build a better future.

The day features speakers, active learning sessions, lunch, and an afternoon of experiential prototyping, where middle, high school and college students work along with adult mentors in attendance to solve a social problem.

Attendees will use design-thinking principles to generate ideas and take action by building a prototype.  Teams will then pitch their prototypes for prizes.
